Well, it’s certainly been a wild month of July for me. After starting out by traveling south and west to Kansas City to celebrate the occasion wedding of my brother and now sister-in-law, I returned home only to then head south and east a week later to worship, learn, and fellowship with other Disciples at the General Assembly of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Columbus. The good news is that I’m home now, and plan to stay that way for a little while!
And maybe you’re feeling the same way. In my absence, you were invited to worship with our neighbors at Northfield Community Church not once, but twice – and hopefully you visited both their early and late services to get the full NCC experience! Add on top of that our joint worship service with NCC on August 2nd and the BBQ and picnic afterward, and you might feel as if you’ve spent a lot of time on the road this past month, too! Well, worship-wise anyway. It’s been a pretty wild month for St. Peter, and some of you might still have the slurry of postcards to prove it!
So this month I’m writing to share with you that – on the one hand – things are going to slow down a little bit. We’ll be getting back to our normal worship schedules after a rather hectic month, and you’ll be seeing my pretty face back in the pulpit on a regular basis after your virtual vacation from me. But, I’ve already made the allusion to the other hand, so here it comes. On the other hand, we’re going to need to take some time to process all of back-and-forth that we’ve been doing with these potential partner congregations. I’m planning on setting up a date for another one of our Sunday morning meetings, where we’ll take time during our worship hour to share in prayer, singing, and devotion, but will then spend a good portion of our time together sharing our thoughts about all of these worship visits. We’ve reached the point where we need to hear what one another are thinking, so we can keep moving forward as we prepare to make some more decisions about our future together.
Unfortunately, I can’t give you a hard and fast date for that meeting today. We still have a couple of worship visits – one on the road, and one here at home – that we’re trying to work out. However, as soon as we have those details finalized, you’ll be receiving an update as to the who’s, the what’s, the when’s, and the where’s of our next opportunities to explore what God might have in mind for our future together. But in the meantime, take an easy breath and enjoy these last days of summer!
Yours on the journey of faith,
PS – we’ll be using those same postcards and email blasts to update you as the schedule falls into place, so keep your eyes open!
